Date: 2nd August
The 2nd Augest is a special day gor the Golden Lion Tamarin, also known as the golden marmoset. International Golden Lion Tamarin Day highlights this small New World monkey of the family Callitrichidae, native to the Atlantic coastal forests of Brazil.
Threats to the golden lion tamarin population include illegal logging, poaching, mining, urbanization, deforestation, pet trading, and infrastructure development and the introduction of alien species.

The Clouded Leopard is a wild cat inhabiting dense forests from the foothills of the Himalayas through mainland Southeast Asia into South China. It is so called because it's coat has dusky-grey blotches and irregular spots and stripes reminiscent of clouds.
International Clouded Leopard Day highlights the plight of this mammal which is mainly threatened by loss of habitat due to deforestation.

World Lion Day on 10th August is a day to raise awareness about the plight of lions and gather support for their conservation.
Lions are threatened by loss of habitat as well as by hunting and poaching.
Date: 12th August
World Elephant Day aims to raise awareness of the plight of elephants around the world. Elephants are in danger from ivory hunters, abuse from tourism, illegal poaching as well as loss of habitat.
It also is a day to honor these beautiful and intelligent creatures and to help ensure the survival of elephants, and of their natural habitat.

Hirolas are a type of antelope. The hirola population has declined by over 95% in the last four decades and World Hirola Day highlights the plights of these animals.
The hirola, also called the Hunter's hartebeest or Hunter's antelope, is a critically endangered antelope species which is found as of now, only in Kenya along the border of Somalia.

International Wolf Day raises awareness of wolves and bust the myths that have grown up around them.
More than thirty subspecies of wolf have been recognized, including the dog and dingo, but it us usually accepted as referring to the Grey Wolf which is native to Eurasia and North America.

World Lizard Day is a day to celebrate these reptiles and learn more about them.
Lizards are largely harmless to humans and some are popular as pets. Lizards range in size from chameleons and geckos a few centimeters long to the 3-meter-long Komodo dragon.

The orangutan is the most endangered great ape on earth. World Orangutan Day recognises this threat which is mainly due to loss of habitat, particularly as orangutans live in trees, with deforestation being the main culprit.
Orangutans face threats from all sides, from poaching to forest conversion into farmland. They are the slowest reproducing species in the world, which means that orangutans are highly prone to extinction.

The african wild dog, also known as the painted dog, is native to sub-Saharan Africa. It is mainly endangered due to loss of habitat which leads to human-wildlife contact.
World African Wild Dog Day on 26th August highlights it's endangered status and the conservation work that is taking place to protect it.
Date: 30th August
International Whale Shark Day celebrates these sharks which are the largest members of the shark family.
These gentle giants are celebrated on this day, but we need to keep the delicate eco-systems of the sea in balance to protect these endangered creatures.
