World Wildlife Day is a United Nations International day to celebrate all the world's wild animals and plants and the contribution that they make to our lives and the health of the planet.

International Day of Action for Rivers is all about protecting rivers and defending the rights of communities that depend on them.

National Panda Day celebrates the cutest black and white bear, which is native to China.
Due to decades of reproduction efforts in zoos, reforestation and conservation campaigns, pandas are considered “vulnerable” to extinction, rather than endangered. However they are still subject to loss of habitat.

Global Recycling Day urges leaders around the world to adopt a joined up approach to recycling, which is urgently needed.
It also urges people to see unwanted items as a resource, rather than waste, and to appreciate recycled and repurposed items.

The house sparrow is now a disappearing species in the UK.
World Sparrow Day highlights the reasons for this decline, including destruction of its habitat, lack of insect food for the young and even the increasing microwave pollution from mobile phone towers.

World Frog Day is a day dedicated to raising awareness for frogs and other amphibians.
Frog populations have been under threat and many species are disappearing, or have already gone extinct.

It also raises awareness of the key role wood plays in a sustainable world through biodiversity and forest conservation.

Created in 1982 by the US Congress, this day highlights the overhunting of seals leading to population decline.

World Water Day is about accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis.
As well as raising awareness of the importance of saving water it encourages changing the way you use, consume and manage water in your lives.

World Metrological Day showcases the essential contribution of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services to the safety and wellbeing of society and is celebrated with activities around the world.
The themes chosen for World Meteorological Day reflect topical weather, climate or water-related issues.

International Day of Zero Waste is a UN designated day created in 2022 to promote zero-waste initiatives and encourage engagment in activities aimed at raising awareness of national, subnational, regional and local zero-waste initiatives and their contribution to achieving sustainable development.
